"Grace & Form"

Ballet has been synonymous with grace, elegance and culture for over four hundred years.  Through much of that time parents wanting to expose their children to the arts, music and dance have chosen ballet lessons as the first formal training.

Whether early ballet exposure leads to a great dance career, such as it did for Twyla Tharp, or simply adds to the factors that cause success in other areas, such as it did for Condoleezza Rice,  there is little doubt that many have found ballet training to be a lasting benefit.

Historian's can argue as to whether ballet started in Italy in the 1400's or was an outgrowth of French innovation in the 1500's.  But there is no argument about the many benefits of ballet lessons.  Ballet training is so important for understanding the vocabulary of dance, both the words we use to describe dance and the stances and movements which are the basic words of dance.

Ballet starts in our program in our preschool rhythmic movement classes and carries through all of our age groups, including adults.  Dance instructors say that ballet is where a dancer develops their core strength.  This expression is a short hand way of saying that the dancer builds the  posture, flexibility and core body strength to allow the arms, legs and head to become expressive.  What that means to you is that ballet is where students learn the body control that leads to comments such as... "She moves like a dancer."

We teach our young ballet dancers to feel how movement works and how to use their bodies to tell a dance story.  They gain coordination, confidence and an ability to translate the rhythms they hear into expressive movement.  As they progress, they add strength, flexibility, technique, knowledge, discipline and passion - learning that they can learn something so remarkably beautiful and complex as ballet.

Ballet is for everyone, come join a ballet class.  See "Getting Started" for more details about enrolling or "Our Programs" for more details on the course offerings and a calendar of key dates.
