Hip Hop - ages 10 and up construction) Hip hop has been described as urban street jazz. It is energetic and highly expressive. Seen in music videos, it is the dance style many teens and preteens want to learn. What is not obvious to them is how much dance technique and discipline is required to achieve the group performance that looks so spontaneous. Students who have previous training in either jazz or tap transition easily into Hio Hop but students can enjoys it's benefits even as beginners to dance. Hip Hop students are required to be simultaneously enrolled in Jazz classes in order to improve their technical training and flexibility. Hip Hop provides the dancer with basic strength and core training as well as aerobic and cardiovascular exercise so necessary for a healthy life style. In combination with Jazz the students improve coordination and balance. Dancers must be 10 years of age or in the 5th grade to join Hip Hop. Most Hip Hop classes are scheduled immediately following a Jazz class for an optimal workout. With all the excitement caused by the wildly popular High School Musical (HSM) and HSM2, now is a great time to inquire if your child wants to aspire to become a hip hop dancer. If they do, we can show them the path to get to that point with their dance.
