![]() "And All That Jazz!" Jazz is the dance style found in most all Broadway and film musicals. If the dance is clearly not ballet, tap or hip hop, then it is Jazz. So Jazz encompasses a broad range of styles. You know Jazz from the work of Bob Fosse. But a Jazz routine might also contain a Charleston step, some jitterbug, or even the twist. Children are naturals when it comes to Jazz.

Jazz - ages 8 and up construction) With or love for musical theatre, it is only natural that Jazz is so popular at our studio. We enjoy teaching Jazz because it is the dance in the shows that children watch most. In Jazz class, we take the music they already love and teach them to dance to it. So what is Jazz? Historically, Jazz is the truly American art form stemming from the Jazz Age in music at the end of the the 1800's. Jazz dance is rooted in a loose combination of tap, ballet, and African dance. Early Jazz encompassed Swing, Lindy Hop, and Jitterbug so popular in current dance contest TV shows. It has expanded to include modern, contemporary, and especially Broadway styles. The great Bob Fosse was a master jazz choreographer (think "Chicago"). Today's hot choreographer is the director of High School Musical, Kenny Ortega. His work includes choreography for Cher, Olivia Newton-John and the Salt Lake City Winter Olympics. Jazz is inextricably linked to the music to which it is performed and so a wide variety of styles may be performed. Our classes include as many genres as possible, introduced at age-appropriate levels. Dancers must be 8 years of age or in the 3rd grade to join Jazz. With all the excitement caused by the wildly popular High School Musical (HSM) and HSM2, now is a great time to inquire if your child wants to dance like a Zac Efron or Ashley Tisdale. If they do, we can show them the path to get to that point with their dance. See "Getting Started" for more details about enrolling or "Our Programs" for more details on the course offerings and a calendar of key dates.
We offer the highest qualify of professional dance instruction available.
